Big news for everyone who rides the rails in Bangkok! The long-awaited 20 baht flat-fare electric train project is officially rolling out. This new policy is designed to make daily commutes more affordable and convenient for everyone. Starting soon, you can ride across multiple lines for a single, low price.
Mark Your Calendars: Registration and Start Dates
The program officially opens for registration on August 25, 2025. You can sign up through the "Thang Rath" government app. The great news is that there's no rush to register—the system is designed to handle a large number of users without crashing, and registration is open indefinitely.
Once you've registered, you can start taking advantage of the 20 baht fare from October 1, 2025.
Who Can Join and What You Need
This flat-fare program is open to Thai nationals with a 13-digit national ID card number. To get the reduced fare, you'll need to use a registered credit card, debit card, or a Rabbit Card. If you don't have a registered card, you'll have to pay the normal fare. The program will cover 8 lines and 13 routes, with a total of 194 stations across Bangkok and its surrounding areas.
How to Use the New Fare
In the first phase of the program, you'll need to use specific cards for certain lines.
- Rabbit Card: Works on the Green, Gold, Yellow, and Pink lines.
- EMV Contactless card (Visa/Mastercard): Works on the Red, Blue, Purple, Pink, Yellow, and Airport Rail Link (ARL) lines.
A key detail to remember is that if you're traveling across different lines, you might need to carry two cards, but you will still only pay a total of 20 baht for the entire trip. The government plans to introduce more convenient technology in the future, such as QR code payments, to make the process even smoother.
